LGBT History Month

About LGBT History Month

LGBT HM is celebrated in February in the UK but our work to educate out prejudice continues throughout the year. Our interactive calendar is also all-year-round so check it out or add an LGBT related event of your own.

This year we will look at Citizenship, PSHE and Law as we mark the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of male homosexuality in England and Wales. The Sexual Offences Act, passed on July the 27th, 1967, was the first stepping stone across the Rubicon and, although it only related to men it had an impact on everyone in the LGBT community, nationally and internationally. Here in England and Wales the state accepted same sex relationships between men for the first time in 500 years (except in the Merchant Navy, where they are still officially banned).

There will be an academic festival in Liverpool in March and our popular festivals will be held in York, Preston, Liverpool, Manchester, Coventry, Shrewsbury, Bournemouth, Exeter and 5 locations in London. Newcastle is holding its own. Check them out on our interactive calendar or click the National Festival link on the left hand side of this page

Happy History Month from The LGBT HM team.

Schools Out UK

Schools OUT UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that began life as The Gay Teachers Association in 1974. Our overarching goal is to make our schools and educational institutions safe spaces for our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) communities as teachers, lecturers and trainers; as pupils and students; as parents; as teaching and learning support staff; as site-officers, catering and cleaning staff; and as headteachers, managers and governors. There is no other organisation that supports such a wide community in attaining such a wide, yet simple overarching goal. See our website for more news and resources for educators www.schools-out.org.uk

Harvey Milk Foundation

Milk Foundation

As a not- for-profit global organization, our program goals – to empower local, regional, national and global organizations so that they may fully realize the power of Harvey Milk’s story, style, and collaborative relationship building – are as large and bold as Harvey taught us!  The Foundation, through Harvey’s dream for a just tomorrow, envisions governments that celebrate the rich and universally empowering diversity of humanity, where all individuals – gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, the young, the disabled – all who had been excluded can fully participate in all societal rights without exception.
